Book Launch – The Firsts: Women Pilots and How They Changed the Airlines, by Mary Bush Shipko

Mary Bush Shipko, author of AVIATRIX: First Woman Pilot for Hughes Airwest, and the picture book Daring Mary brings us a young reader’s history of the first women commercial pilots for six airlines, including her own story. Accessible for readers as young as 8-10, the book presents an honest account of the trials our pioneering women endured in pursuit of their dreams, which includes age-appropriate references to sexual harassment and pornography. Almost as inspiring as this collection of stories and how these pioneering women opened the flight deck door is the way in which Mary expresses how writing her story and sharing it with the world helped her heal from the traumas and disappointments she experienced along her journey.
