About the Author

History is pretty much the best thing that’s ever happened to us humans. It has everything: action, adventure, discovery, romance, and—most importantly—humor. We tend to tell the same stories in new ways to make them relatable to our time, place, and culture. But there’s a treasure trove of tales ready to wow us with courage, genius, and absurdity.

It’s a blast to write this kind of history in a way that makes the lesser-known stories accessible to younger readers. Adding extra context for the adults who read these stories aloud is just as much fun.

The Historically Hilarious series is non-serious non-fiction written for kids of all ages and designed to draw readers in with LOLs to discover history through humor.

Gritty. Independent. Resourceful. Leaders. Jacqueline Cochran, Nancy Harkness-Love and the Women Airforce Service Pilots is based on the scholarly work “The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II: Perspectives on the Work of America’s First Military Women Aviators.” My mom, Natalie Stewart-Smith, MA, MEd, authored this research.
