Flying Circus Above and Beyond

The stealthy Nighthawk spirals out of control after a collision with a rogue cargo plane called Albert. She wants revenge! But is this the Flying Circus way? Albert’s presence has closed airports putting Woody in a perilous position during a fundraising flight. Albert is unpopular but can he earn redemption?

An idyllic country fair is reduced to mayhem by an impulsive low fly-past from the F-14 Tomcat. He tries to avoid acknowledging the impact his inner turmoil has on others by flying extremely high. Can he understand that people need to feel heard and acknowledged before they can forgive? Can Vul overcome debilitating age-related self-doubt about his worthiness and fulfil a critical role as air ambulance? He can, once he realizes worth is not contingent on perfection.

In the final story, Woody, the little biplane, finds the remains of a Roman town on a site where a new runway is to be built. The camaraderie of his friends helps him stand up to an unpleasant band of construction vehicles. Through sticking to his principles, Woody leaves a legacy.

About the Author

Leona was immersed in the world of aviation from an early age; her grandfather, Sir Alan Cobham, made many first-time flights as well as pioneering the invention of in-flight refuelling. Leona inherited this love of flying and travel. Now she draws her young readers into a world of aeroplanes through tales told by the aeroplanes themselves about their adventures, thoughts and feelings.

Believing happy children learn best, Leona infuses her writing with humour, adventure, and a big feel-good factor. Self-development is a key theme. Her aeroplanes overcome personal as well as technical challenges to succeed in missions close to Leona’s heart, like helping endangered species, putting out forest fires and building friendships.

Leona began research and writing in 1994 for a PhD on forest-based agriculture in Cameroon. She is a born researcher and her website, like her books, is an archive of fascinating facts about flying. She lives in a house in Surrey, UK, with her two sons and two dogs; a scary number of bees live in hives in her garden.
